Harlequin's Haven
Greetings Cosmic Cousins and Soul Buddies,

Here we are in the 4th month of the year and smack bang in the sign of Aries - the ram.  Arians are wonderful, passionate and highly motivated people.  This is spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern.  Astrologically speaking it the beginning of the new solar year and is a great time to set about re-inventing and or doing the odd little make over.

Before I go on with my usual monthly treats I wanted to respond to a story I read late in March.  The article was on the internet and also was covered in other media coverage. The story was based on some misgivings from Paul McCartney and the culling of kangaroos in our tiny Territory, Canberra.  Apparently, Sir Paul is concerned for the health and future of our two legged hopping marsupial.  As a Canberran I appreciate the attention from the famous "veggie" and it would be even nicer if he would come to our drought ravaged country and deliver this message in person.

Jar of Jems
My Dear Friend Jem,

The autumn cloak is visiting this part of the country.  Here in the Alpine region we can feel the subtle change in temperature.  This morning as I drove into town a thick fog cascaded over the landscape. It seems strange knowing that Vermont is just coming out of its winter dreamtime.

I love this time of year.  The crispness in the mornings, the fresh zeal the season brings to almost everything I do, makes me feel so grateful to be alive.  As you know we've had a long hot, dry summer in these parts.  The drought has knobbled a lot of farmers and the earth is blazing red. Our essential resources such as water are a premium commodity and petrol (gas) is even rarer.

The only abundant life force here in Australia's capital is the kangaroo.  It is sad to say that we are being over run with the long legged hopping marsupial.  There is talk that our local government is considering culling (nice word for killing) these beasts.  Can you imagine that?  They are planning on destroying half of our coat of arms?  I am sure that wouldn't happen in America.  In some cases, Jems people actually eat the kangaroo. Personally I find it repulsive and just plain un-Australian.  I can't even entertain the thought that our cousins in the United States would consider sitting down to an eagle stew, can you? I know that the roos are eating our native grasses and destroying the land but can't they just find them a nice retirement village somewhere? You know like green acres or roos haven by the sea?

Life in the Capital is hectic at the moment.  Our Prime Minister Mr. Kevin Rudd is visiting with your President, Mr. Bush.  I was going to ask if I could hitch a ride with him and perhaps call in and have a cuppa but I had to wash my hair.  Apparently our leaders are going to be chatting about all sorts of important issues.  I hope they get along and play nice.

I hope all is well in your world and I look forward to our ongoing cyber chat.  Have a fun April and I hope that spring is sensational in glorious Vermont.

Long Live Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo!

Dearest JAR,
