My own MP3 player uses a Mini B connection.
Some MP3 players utilise an inbuilt Type A connector which generally slides out of the case as shown in the picture below.
The major drawback of all USB is the placement of USB ports on Desktop PCs. Unless your PC has front-accessible ports, you have to reach around the back and try to find a port - usually by feel! In that case, the better option is to use a USB extension cable - that is, a Type A male connector to plug into the PC and a Type A female socket on the other end of a short cable.

Once you have connected the MP3 player to your computer we now need to transfer your MP3 files to the player. But, how do you get an MP3 file onto your computer:
1.        Download from the internet
2.        "Rip" from a CD ( technically breaching copyright but Microsoft does provide facility to do it in Media Player)
Downloading from the internet is simply a matter of locating the material you want, clicking on the download button or other link then when the dialogue box pops up, select Save. In some instances simply clicking on the download link will actually launch a mini player with your browser and start to play the MP3 so it may be more desirable to Right-click the link and then click on Save Target as. . .

Save all your MP3s in one location to make finding them easier.

Now, it's simply a matter of Right-clicking on the file using Windows Explorer (File Manager) and the pop-up menu will give an option of Send to. . . and hovering your mouse pointer over this will give another pop-up sub-menu that will include Removable drive E (or F, G, H, I -  depending on your hardware configuration). That's it! Your MP3 file is now in your MP3 player and as all MP3 players have unique differences I'll assume you have the wherewithall to drive your MP3 player!   (Mac users may have to seek guidance on how to manage files using a one-button mouse!)
