The Cat's Meow - Extracts from the Diary of a Cat

A Quick Note from Phoebe’s Female Human
Phoebe lives with me, Joc, and my partner Don in rural NSW.  We have 10 acres (4 hectares) in a rural housing estate not far from Australia’s capital, not Sydney, the real capital, Canberra.  We are cat people who, jokingly, say that we built our current house around the cat door. This is scarily true.  Phoebe and Agatha came to live with us as kittens rescued from the RSPCA around 9 years ago. Phoebe is an outdoors cat, particularly during summer months.  Agatha is an indoors cat, only going outside a couple of times a day for ‘personal time’. Today I caught her thinking about having ‘personal time’ in my garden bed of newly sprouted carrots. Needless to say she was moved in  Phoebe has kept a diary since she was a young kitten, writing first about how she used to get locked outside during the day and couldn’t get back in – she couldn’t get the hang of the cat door – but don’t tell her that. Like all responsible cat owners we like to keep the cats locked in the house between dusk and dawn, also known as prime hunting time for cats. When upset or angry, Phoebe has a meow that melts ear wax, so we try not to upset her.  Agatha shows her displeasure through tail and ear posturing. A cat can say a lot with ears and tail flicks. Both cats are integral family members.
